All food waste, raw and cooked, should be placed in the Organics Green-lid bin.
Examples include:
- Meat, chicken, fish, shellfish including bones
- Plate scrapings
- Fruit and vegetable scraps
- Cake, bread, rice, pasta
- Dairy products like cheese, yoghurt and cream
- Tea bags, coffee grounds
Australia produces 4.45 million tonnes of food waste every year. That’s almost 1000 kgs per household which equates to about a quarter of the food we buy. When food is thrown into landfill it creates dangerous liquids and gases that are costly to manage.
