Blankets, bedding and towels in useable clean condition can be donated to a local charity or animal rescue centre. Unusable bedding can be placed in the household Landfill Red-lid bin.
While blister packets used for pills, tablets and lozenges are hard plastic, they are often glued with foil which means they can't be recycled via your Recycling Yellow-lid bin. If you can remove all the foil, the plastic can be recycled. Otherwise dispose of in your Landfill Red-lid bin.
Meat bones, raw and cooked, can be placed in the Organics Green-lid bin. Council is able to compost many items that cannot be composted through home compost systems. Hint: Freeze meat bones and scraps until bin collection day to reduce odours.
Damaged books including glossy, hardcover books can be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. Hint: Non damaged books can be donated to your local library or charity for reuse.

If clothing is still in good condition consider donating to a local charity, swapping with friends or even selling online. If clothing is not in good condition, it can be used as cleaning rags or placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin where it will be sent to landfill.
Coffee cups without a compostable logo (either polystyrene or paper with a plastic coating) cannot be recycled and go in your Landfill Red-lid bin, which goes to landfill. If your single-use cup has the compostable logo, it can go in your Organics Green-lid bin! Just make sure you recycle the lid - this goes in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. Mattresses must be dropped off at a Council waste facility. There is a small fee per mattress or base to cover the cost of recycling mattresses. They are not deposited in landfill and are taken away for special processing by a contractor. Empty medicine bottles can be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. These should be rinsed out with water before they are placed in the bin. Surplus, out of date, or unused medicines should be returned to a participating hospital or pharmacy.

Over 90% of the materials used in a mobile are recyclable, avoiding future greenhouse gas emissions, saving energy, protecting our environment and conserving scarce natural resources. While mobile phones cannot be recycled through the Recycling Yellow-lid bin, they can be returned to shops selling mobile phones and placed in the Mobile Muster bins. Nappies and sanitary waste should be wrapped tightly and stored in well-sealed bags and placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin. Hint: Empty the contents of soiled nappies into the toilet before placing them in the bin. Tightly roll into a bundle to enclose contents and use the sticky tabs to close securely. Wrap, bag or double-bag nappies and sanitary items to reduce smells. There are products available such as odour neutralising nappy bags and bin deodorisers that can help. Consider using washable cloth nappies to reduce waste.
Many local residents require the use of needles and syringes for self-administered health purposes such as diabetes. These needles and syringes are generally known as ‘community sharps’ and these community sharps should not be disposed of in Landfill Red-lid bin or public litter bins, but instead be placed in specific sharps disposal bins. Paint can be stored for up to ten years. Keeping touch-up paint available will help you maintain your building without having to completely repaint. If you still have large amounts of paint, consider donating it to a community organisation that can use it. * Red-lid bin (General Waste): Shredded paper should generally go in the red bin. Smaller pieces are difficult for sorting staff to handle effectively and can lead to contamination in the recycling stream. * Optional (Yellow-lid Recycling Bin): If it is convenient and safe for you to do so, shredded office paper or small pieces of paper may be enclosed in an unwaxed cardboard box, shoe box, paper bag, or envelope and placed in the yellow-lid recycling bin. This helps prevent it from dispersing during collection and sorting. * Home Composting: Can also be used in home composting as a carbon material if uncoated and clean.
* Red-lid bin (General Waste): All paper towels and tissues should go in the red bin due to hygiene and processing concerns. * FOGO: Not accepted – the FOGO stream is limited to food (raw and cooked) and garden waste only.

All pet food waste, raw and cooked, should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin. Remove from tins or packets before placing in the Landfill Red-lid bin.
Pet waste and animal droppings should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin. Hint: Pet waste (dog poo) can be buried in your garden. If you decide to throw it away, bag or double-bag it securely to prevent smells and flies.
Old phone books can be recycled by being placed into your Recycling Yellow-lid bin.
Empty pizza boxes with food scapped off can be put in your Recycling Yelllow-lid bin. Heavily soiled pizza boxes must be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin.
Plastic plant pots and seedling containers - up to an A5 sheet of paper size, should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin where they will be sent to landfill. If the pot is clean and has a recycling symbol with number 1-7 it can be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin.
Garden waste, including lawn clippings, prunings, small sticks, twigs, flowers and leaves should be placed in the Organics Green-lid bin. Note: No large stumps or branches. Remember to shake the soil off your weeds and cuttings to avoid making your green bin too heavy.
Plastic bags can ONLY be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin. They must NOT be placed in the yellow or green bins. Hint: Only 3% of the 3.9 billion plastic bags used annually in Australia are recycled. Recycling facilities are available at local supermarkets and retail outlets. Woolworths, Coles, IGA and Big W accept plastic bags for recycling. Clean, rigid plastic take away containers can be recycled by being placed into the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. Hint: It is important to wash the containers so they can be recycled. This will also reduce odours. Note: Foam take away containers cannot be recycled and must be placed into your Landfill Red-lid bin. Remember: Any leftover take away food should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin.
Many teabags are made from materials containing plastic and use staples to attach the strings and cardboard tabs, so they are best disposed of in the Landfill red-lid bin.

Timber is processed wood. It contains chemicals and adhesives that sadly contaminate compost. Small timber pieces can go into the Landfill Red-lid bin but larger items need to be taken to your local Resource Recovery Centre.
Tissues should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin. Note: Tissue boxes can be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin.
If toys are still in good condition consider donating to a local charity, swapping with friends or even selling online. If toys are not in good condition, they can be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin.

Cardboard boxes should be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. The inner foil bag, however, cannot be recycled and should be placed in the Landfill Red-lid bin.
Wood is direct from the garden and includes sticks, branches and prunings. This can all go into the Organics Green-lid bin to become compost. Note: No large stumps or branches. These should be taken to a resource recovery centre (Batlow, Khancoban, Talbingo, Tumbarumba) or ANL in Tumut.
Wrapping paper can be placed in the Recycling Yellow-lid bin. Hint: Small amounts of sticky tape and ribbon are accepted
