- Red-lid bin (General Waste): Shredded paper should generally go in the red bin. Smaller pieces are difficult for sorting staff to handle effectively and can lead to contamination in the recycling stream.
- Optional (Yellow-lid Recycling Bin): If it is convenient and safe for you to do so, shredded office paper or small pieces of paper may be enclosed in an unwaxed cardboard box, shoe box, paper bag, or envelope and placed in the yellow-lid recycling bin. This helps prevent it from dispersing during collection and sorting.
- Home Composting: Can also be used in home composting as a carbon material if uncoated and clean.
